Rockstar Health & Fitness Workout Playlist Comes To iHeartRadio  0

One of the best parts about the holidays (& life in general) is spending time with people you love. That is true soul food. It’s so great to catch up with family and dear friends or maybe stopping by to visit a neighbor. It’s fun to share thoughtful gifts and create new memories. In my family, we spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking and laughing. Luckily, we are an active bunch so there is always some sort of exercise and outdoor playing around.

My favorite way to workout is listening to great music when I am exercising. When I was teaching KIIS-FM yoga on the pier series, I was well known for my incredible playlists. Which is why iHeart Radio asked me to create a workout playlist for my Rockstar Health & Fitness radio station. It is so fun to combine my favorite things: exercise and music.

My playlist has so much good music that I guarantee you will hear songs you love regardless of your format preference. You will hear current hit songs like Taylor Swift, “Blank Space”, Hozier “Take Me to Church”, Lindsey Stirling “Shatter Me”, Fall Out Boy “Centuries” to great hip hop from Tupac or Big Sean to Classic Rock from Ozzy Ozbourne or Van Halen to some incredible surprise songs that will definitely put a smile on your face. More importantly it will motivate you to move your body and add a fun element to your workout. Inspiring you to burn those extra calories we always consume around the holidays. Remember, “it’s not a choice, it’s a lifestyle”

Rockstar Health & Fitness EXTRA With IGGY AZA  0

Having spent my entire adult life in the music business, I have seen thousands of artist showcases.  I have to admit, I am jaded and it is not easy for an artist to really blow me away. I went to see Iggy Azalea perform a few weeks ago and all I can say is OMG!!  Not only did she blow me away, I have not stopped talking about her since the show.

Iggy moved to the US from Australia when she was 16 years old.  She did whatever it took to work hard and build a life around music.  She cleaned hotel rooms, worked in restaurants and during that time she was continuing to work on her music.  Her incredible beauty is breathtaking and it’s no surprise that she is a top model for the Wilhelmina agency.  But it’s her live performance and amazing musical talent that will blow you away!!  Her ability to rap and dance left me speechless.

Her body is a beautiful work of art, a true inspiration. Her fashion style, on top of everything, takes it all to another level. I couldn’t connect with her fast enough to learn her healthy secrets and how she keeps her body in such beautiful shape.

The video for her single “Work” is a must see and the song is perfect for your workout playlist. Here is what I learned from Iggy when we were hanging out at KIIS-FM. Keep an eye out for Iggy Azalea…..she is destined to be a superstar and definitely has what it takes!!

Lori Rischer Recaps The Awareness Film Festival  0

The Awareness Film Festival in Santa Monica was incredible.  It was such an honor to host the closing night program and to be a part of an event that is striving to make a difference. As part of a healthy lifestyle, dedicating your personal time to issues important to you helps create balance and gratitude.  Thank you to, Heal One World, for putting together so many wonderful films that create awareness on important issues.  The first step in effecting change is through awareness.  I was fortunate to see and learn about a few select movies that I highly recommend….such as:

See Me: The movie takes place in a South African orphanage where the kids were given disposable cameras with which they then took pictures of their lives.  We get to see the world through their eyes and WOW…..they have so much pride and gratitude.  Their creativity and excitement in using a camera was heartwarming.
G-Dog.  There are no words to describe how moved I was by this movie.  I have been a volunteer working with kids in South LA for over 10 years so this was close to my heart.  The movie is about Father Greg Boyle, who started Homeboy Industries to help gang members reform and rebuild their lives.  He works by a powerful idea: “Nothing Stops a Bullet like a Job.”  Over the years, his unstoppable compassion has turned around the lives of thousands of gang members. He has come up with an international model of positive change…that really works.  He teaches us that a little compassion and love go a long way.  This is a must see movie!!
Awakening World: Have you ever wondered about the purpose of life or what is love? That’s what filmmaker Sebastian Siegel sets out to uncover through interviews with renowned authors, leaders and globally recognized artists.  I had a profound moment of clarity during this movie.  Years ago, my father was in a very serious and horrific accident that left him in ICU for weeks.  While he was lying there hooked up to all kinds of tubes he realized the meaning of life was about “who you love and who loves you.”  In this movie, one of my heroes, Marianne Williamson, said the exact same thing.  I was incredibly moved and reminded about the power of love.
One Track Heart, The Story of Krishna Das:  Since my world is based on music and yoga, he is an icon to me.  His music is in every yoga class I teach and once helped me out of a panic attack on an overnight train in India.  He heals the world through his music.  It was fascinating to learn about his struggles and his journey.  Not too mention, he was once the lead singer of Blue Oyster Cult….who knew?
In addition, I was moved by the awards ceremony that I also hosted.  Being able to meet such amazing people that in their own way are making a difference, was a powerful experience.  We need more people like them to open our eyes and our hearts so we can take action.  Action to create positive change and help others along the way.
Here are the award winning movies:

Grand Jury:

Feature Doc:            420 – The Documentary

Feature Narrative:    Home

Short Narrative:        Hark

REVIEW: Wanderlust Yoga In The City Los Angeles  0

The big Wanderlust event, Yoga in the City, Los Angeles, was an absolute blast!!  I was TRULY honored to be invited to host the all day event that included the best teachers in Los Angeles!

We literally took over the Santa Monica pier with 1,000’s of yogis plus amazing healthy food and drinks.  A special shout out to my friends at LYFE Kitchen for not only feeding me for the day but sending me home with a care package that will keep me eating healthy and delicious food for awhile. Also, thank you to my wonderful friends at LuluLemon for the great outfit.  I LOVE my new Wonder Under yoga pants.

During the event, there were three yoga classes: starting with Bryan Kest and Cristi Christensen.  Bryan took everyone through a powerful and grounding meditation, then Christi kicked it into high gear with her fantastic energy and incredible workout.  The next class was taught by Mia Togo and Ashley Turner.  They are the kind of women I respect and would like to hang out with on the weekend.  I love their energy, message and philosophy.  Their class was just like them….beautiful and inspiring.

The final class turned into a giant dance party.  It started with the arm balance king, Brock Cahill, aka the gravity cowboy. The class was then taken to another level when MC Yogi and DJ Drez took the stage.  Not only was MC Yogi hysterical to hang out with, it was clear his energy spread to the students as they where all on their feet dancing and singing.

The entire day was magical. The energy of the festival and the crowd was fantastic. It was clear that everyone who showed up was doing something healthy and fun for their body, mind and spirit. What a day!!   Be sure and catch next year’s Yoga in the City, LA.  I will definitely be back!!

Superstar Miguel Shares His Health Secrets  0

Some people are just made to be superstars!!  I first met Miguel when he was a teenager and I knew then he was one of “those” people!  At the time, I was working for one of Hollywood’s most powerful management companies, THE FIRM.  I brought Miguel into our Beverly Hills office for a meeting as a potential client. He blew everyone away when he jumped onto the conference room table during his performance. It literally left them speechless.

Fast forward several years and he is on the brink of super stardom with his gorgeous hit single “Adorn.” In addition, he has several R&B chart toppers, a stunning Grammy performance with Wiz Khalifa (Kelly Clarkson sang his praises) and NOW his feature on the new Mariah Carey single “#Beautiful.”

The best part is, since I work with Mariah at Island Def Jam, I also get to work his song.  The LA Times is calling it the SONG OF THE SUMMER and it is flying up the charts.  I spent some time with Miguel at Wango Tango…while grabbing the camera so I could share his healthy secrets with you.  Here is what we discussed in our Rockstar Health & Fitness Extra video:

Horseback Riding Core Benefits  0

We hope you learned some interesting information about CrossFit in the first episode of our Season 2, Skee TV, Rockstar Health & Fitness.  I’ve been enjoying Greg’s breakfast recipe and look forward to trying, Fortified Nutrition Perfect Blocks.
Next week, in our episode with Icelandic superstars, The Charlies, you will learn some great core exercises and a fun popcorn recipe.
This past weekend, during my adventure to Ojai, I discovered another great workout for your core. To celebrate a friend’s birthday weekend getaway, KIIS-FM APD/MD Julie Pilat, put together a, Pay It Forward, scavenger hunt. We divided into teams and traveled around Ojai doing fun things which included a few good deeds. At one point, I found myself horseback riding which proved to be a great core workout in itself! The list of benefits is incredibly long.
They include:
  • Improves cardio function
  • Improves respiration and circulation
  • Strengths muscles, esp., core, postural & pelvic, hamstrings, inner thigh and quadriceps
  • Lowers stress
  • Provides opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and fresh air
  • Facilitates learning about a magnificent animal
  • Develops trust

Get outside, witness nature, enjoy a beautiful animal, and get some exercise!!  These hints add up to a great combination of ways to provide better health for your body and peace to the soul.  Horseback riding has been a favorite Hollywood past time throughout history.
Equestrian celebrities include: Leona Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Madonna, Demi Lovato, Kristen Stewart, Angelina Jolie and trainer, Jillian Michaels.  Here in LA we have access to a great place up Beachwood Canyon where you can ride all around the Hollywood hills.
