BIG SEAN-Born To Be Famous  0

Big Sean webSome people are destined to be superstars. It’s part of their DNA; you feel it. Having spent most of my life in the music business, I have been fortunate to meet many people with this quality as I work with some of the biggest artists in the world and help break new talent.

I met the talented and incredibly charming Big Sean a few years ago, and he has since been one of my favorite hip hop artists.  He started rapping when he was twelve years old, and by high school, he was winning competitions. A chance encounter with Kanye West, who agreed to hear the teenager freestyle, catapulted him into the big leagues. His 2011 debut album, Finally Famous, entered the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 –  his single, My Last, featuring Chris Brown, was a #1 smash!  He has also been featured on Justin Bieber’s As Long As You Love Me and several other recent radio hits. Big Sean’s career has exploded over the last two years, and so has his social media presence: he has 3.2 million Facebook fans, 4.2 million Twitter followers, one million Instagram followers, over 50 million views on YouTube, and more than 400 million views on Vevo. Big Sean just released his new single, Beware, featuring Lil Wayne and Jhene Aiko, to rave reviews. It is the first single off his new album, Hall Of Fame, which was released on August 27.

Big Sean has been a featured guest on my KIIS-FM interview series, Rockstar Health & Fitness Extra, and we have had several conversations about his healthy secrets. He had a great start on the health bandwagon from his mom. I met her at The Grammys; she is beautiful and lives a very healthy lifestyle. She taught him at a young age about superfoods, vitamins, and working out. He continues to follow her advice by taking plenty of vitamins, enzymes, probiotics, fish oil, and other supplements. As for working out, boxing is his favorite way to keep in shape; being in the boxing ring with his trainer helps to develop more endurance for his performances, especially when touring.

“I try to work out as much as possible, although sometimes it is difficult with my hectic schedule. But whenever I do, I function better, which makes life better,” explains Big Sean.

Big Sean also mixes in some weight training, and when he’s traveling, his high energy performances provide additional cardio exercise. He only eats organic food, and his favorite healthy vegetarian meal is a salad with organic greens and eggs. This is his favorite quick and easy recipe:

  • Chop up some organic romaine lettuce, tomato, red peppers, and asparagus.
  • Add a splash of balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and mix.
  • Top the salad with a chopped hard-boiled egg. (Non vegetarians: Add sliced warm grilled organic chicken, if you desire.)
  • Serve.

Rockstar Health & Fitness EXTRA With IGGY AZA  0

Having spent my entire adult life in the music business, I have seen thousands of artist showcases.  I have to admit, I am jaded and it is not easy for an artist to really blow me away. I went to see Iggy Azalea perform a few weeks ago and all I can say is OMG!!  Not only did she blow me away, I have not stopped talking about her since the show.

Iggy moved to the US from Australia when she was 16 years old.  She did whatever it took to work hard and build a life around music.  She cleaned hotel rooms, worked in restaurants and during that time she was continuing to work on her music.  Her incredible beauty is breathtaking and it’s no surprise that she is a top model for the Wilhelmina agency.  But it’s her live performance and amazing musical talent that will blow you away!!  Her ability to rap and dance left me speechless.

Her body is a beautiful work of art, a true inspiration. Her fashion style, on top of everything, takes it all to another level. I couldn’t connect with her fast enough to learn her healthy secrets and how she keeps her body in such beautiful shape.

The video for her single “Work” is a must see and the song is perfect for your workout playlist. Here is what I learned from Iggy when we were hanging out at KIIS-FM. Keep an eye out for Iggy Azalea…..she is destined to be a superstar and definitely has what it takes!!

Lori Rischer Recaps The Awareness Film Festival  0

The Awareness Film Festival in Santa Monica was incredible.  It was such an honor to host the closing night program and to be a part of an event that is striving to make a difference. As part of a healthy lifestyle, dedicating your personal time to issues important to you helps create balance and gratitude.  Thank you to, Heal One World, for putting together so many wonderful films that create awareness on important issues.  The first step in effecting change is through awareness.  I was fortunate to see and learn about a few select movies that I highly recommend….such as:

See Me: The movie takes place in a South African orphanage where the kids were given disposable cameras with which they then took pictures of their lives.  We get to see the world through their eyes and WOW…..they have so much pride and gratitude.  Their creativity and excitement in using a camera was heartwarming.
G-Dog.  There are no words to describe how moved I was by this movie.  I have been a volunteer working with kids in South LA for over 10 years so this was close to my heart.  The movie is about Father Greg Boyle, who started Homeboy Industries to help gang members reform and rebuild their lives.  He works by a powerful idea: “Nothing Stops a Bullet like a Job.”  Over the years, his unstoppable compassion has turned around the lives of thousands of gang members. He has come up with an international model of positive change…that really works.  He teaches us that a little compassion and love go a long way.  This is a must see movie!!
Awakening World: Have you ever wondered about the purpose of life or what is love? That’s what filmmaker Sebastian Siegel sets out to uncover through interviews with renowned authors, leaders and globally recognized artists.  I had a profound moment of clarity during this movie.  Years ago, my father was in a very serious and horrific accident that left him in ICU for weeks.  While he was lying there hooked up to all kinds of tubes he realized the meaning of life was about “who you love and who loves you.”  In this movie, one of my heroes, Marianne Williamson, said the exact same thing.  I was incredibly moved and reminded about the power of love.
One Track Heart, The Story of Krishna Das:  Since my world is based on music and yoga, he is an icon to me.  His music is in every yoga class I teach and once helped me out of a panic attack on an overnight train in India.  He heals the world through his music.  It was fascinating to learn about his struggles and his journey.  Not too mention, he was once the lead singer of Blue Oyster Cult….who knew?
In addition, I was moved by the awards ceremony that I also hosted.  Being able to meet such amazing people that in their own way are making a difference, was a powerful experience.  We need more people like them to open our eyes and our hearts so we can take action.  Action to create positive change and help others along the way.
Here are the award winning movies:
